Gallery Talk about West Mahwah History

On Sunday, November 17 at 3:00 pm, lifelong Mahwah resident Gene Manghi will lead a gallery talk about the history of West Mahwah. The lecture will take place at the Mahwah Museum’s “Neighborhoods of Mahwah” exhibit, 201 Franklin Turnpike. Admission is free to Museum members, $3.00 for non-members; contact lectures@mahwahmuseum.org to reserve.

Gene Manghi, with trustee Tom O’Brien, mounted the West Mahwah portion of “Neighborhoods.” American Brakeshoe, The Ford Assembly Plant, Ramapo Valley Air Field andJanek’s Meat Market are a few of the topics of the West Mahwah exhibit. The West Mahwah gallery talk is part of a series: each month, a different neighborhood in the exhibit will be highlighted. During each gallery talk, questions and discussion will be encouraged.

On Thursday November 14, at 7:30 p.m., Alex Michelini, a former journalist, investigative reporter, and founder of the Joyce Kilmer Society of Mahwah, will speak about Kilmer’s short, but very eventful life, from the instant success of “Trees” to the personal tragedy of the loss of a child, his religious conversion and ultimately to the fervent patriotism that propelled him into the Great War and his death on a French battlefield in 1918 at the age of 31.
