What was their influence on American art during the first two decades of the twentieth century?

“The Ashcan Artists and Their Influence” features art of the early twentieth century when a new kind of painting emerged.  It drew its vitality from reality… life on the streets and new technologies.  Many artists were rebelling from strict codes imposed by nineteenth century academic art.  Although the eight ashcan artists  had very different styles of painting, they shared similar attitudes about the society in which they lived.  This presentation will  feature about 45 slides concentrating on the works of Henri, Sloan, Glackens, Shinn, Luks, Prendergast, Davies, and Lawson.  Other Artists include Bellows, Myers, and Coleman will be shown as well.   Do you want to be able to go to an art museum and more completely understand and appreciate the different types of art?  Then join us.  “The Ashcan Artists and their Influence” is free.   No registration is necessary.  Seats are on a “first come” basis.
