Mahwah Marine Moms Sew Up Soldier Mailings with Patriotic Quilt

Raffle for the hand-crafted quilt will help pay for the Moms' holiday care package shipment to troops overseas.

The end of this year will see the Mahwah Marine Moms making two more rounds of shipments to American troops serving overseas – one of Halloween candy this October, and one of stockings and gift bags this holiday season.

To help pay for the shipments, organizers of the group say they put together, “one of the most beautiful,” raffles they’ve ever offered.

Moms are now selling $10 raffle tickets to win an American flag quilt hand-crafted by Mahwah artist Joan Flanigan.

The quilt, which members say has been appraised at over $1,000, is six feet long by nearly four feet wide. The quilting over the flag patches is done in a design that depicts bald eagles and stars. It also has a hand-sewn sleeve built in, for hanging.

The quilt is, “so unique,” Marine Moms President Terry Wendrychowicz said.

“It’s just beautiful and we are honored to raffle it off.”

The money raised will help the Moms continue to ship care packages overseas, which they do all year long. Since it formed in September of 2006 with six local moms, the now 58-member group has shipped thousands of packages to American troops.

The drawing for the quilt will be pulled November 13, during the Moms’ Support Our Troops Night at the Mahwah Bar & Grill. Entrants need not be present to win.

Locals can pick up tickets y contacting the Moms on Facebook, on their website, or by emailing mahwahmarinemoms@yahoo.com.
