Bergen Community College Celebrates Veterans Day

Bergen Community College rolled out a red, white and blue carpet for its student veterans with the opening of the Veterans and Military Affairs Center today.

The center, unveiled during the college’s annual Veterans Day remembrance ceremony, offers veteran-specific support services and a central location for advising, counseling and registration, according to a spokesperson for the school.

A procession at the Paramus campus was led by public safety officers U.S. Army veteran Joquann Montgomery, of Paterson; Vrej Citakian, of Cresskill; and Thomas Meyers of Hackensack.

After the opening ceremony, the college’s Rotary treated veterans to a lunch prepared by the school’s hotel/restaurant/hospitality program students and served by members of the Student Government Association.

Bergen enrolls more than 300 military veterans under the Post 9/11 G.I. Bill, according to Larry Hlavenka Jr., managing director of the college’s Office of Public Relations.
