Mahwah EMS Thanks Residents for First Fund Drive Donations

The volunteer organization is still accepting donations.

The following letter to the editor was submitted to Patch by Mahwah EMS.

In October, Mahwah EMS, the township’s volunteer ambulance squad, launched its very first annual drive. Follow up letters have been mailed to those residents and businesses who haven’t answered the initial plea.

“We want to thank those who generously gave”, says Walt Seaman, Squad Treasurer and Fund Drive Chairman.  “The monies that have since been received will be allocated towards the purchase of such things as equipment, medical supplies, training and vehicle maintenance”.

“Most people wouldn’t realize that virtually all of our medical supplies need to be replaced, even if they are not used, as most items have expiration dates.  For example, an Epi-Pen costs us almost $150 each and we carry a total of two (2) of them on each of our four (4) ambulances”, says Mahwah EMS Chief Liz Villano.  “Even if these items are not used, they must be discarded and replaced, as dictated by each item’s expiration date”

Mr. Seaman advises that anyone that did not receive a 2013 Fund Drive letter and wishes to donate may simply write a check payable to “Mahwah EMS” and note “Fund Drive” in the memo line of the check.  Donations can be mailed to PO Box 551, Mahwah, NJ 07430.  Donations can also be made online by clicking on the DONATE button on the squad’s website (www.MahwahEMS.org).

The ambulance squad, formed in July of 2013 was created by members of the two separate ambulance squads in town.  The new organization is responding to ambulance calls for the entire town.
