Moms Raise Money for Betsy Ross Para Sunday

Para had a heart attack last month and families will be selling bracelets Sunday to help raise money for her family.

Allison Schlackman, a Mahwah mom of two who works as a para-professional in a first grade class at Betsy Ross School, suffered a heart attack on Nov. 25. A group of local moms has started a fundraiser to help her family through her ongoing recovery. One of the organizers recently sent the following letter to the editor to Patch about a fundraising event Sunday.

Mahwah residents are rallying around our beloved Allison Schlackman! Her surgery was performed on Wednesday (12/18) and although she is still in the ICU, the information flowing on the caring bridge site seems very positive.  However it still looks likely she will not be home before New Years.  (http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/allieschlack)

Lend your support on December 22 at Continental Soldier's Park from 12 to 4 p.m. Mahwah Dunkin Donuts on McArthur Blvd has kindly donated some munchkins and we will have some coffee as well.

Drop by and make the Schlackman’s holiday an amazing one! We will be selling red bracelets engraved with “BE BRAVE. WE (heart) A.S” for $2, accepting donations, as well as gift cards, grocery cards, gas cards and any letters of encouragement you would like to drop off. All monies will be deposited first thing Monday morning into their account ready to make their Christmas a merry one!

Please note that if you already contacted cincodemaio@verizon.net your bracelets will be reserved for you in marked envelopes. So please give your name at the table. We expect the bracelets to go very fast based on the interest so please come as early as you can!

A special thank you goes out to Jeff Morris and Mahwah Youth Basketball for collecting donations and selling bracelets during their Dinner and a Movie Night on Dec. 20. They collected an amazing $400, proving again Mahwah won’t rest for Mrs. S!
