Nutcracker to Benefit Mahwah Girl Battling Cancer

FLOW-area school, the Dance Theatre of New Jersey, is putting on the show in Mahwah this weekend.

About 50 local dancers will come together this Saturday to entertain audiences with a Christmas classic, and help a local eight-year-old battling cancer.

The Dance Theatre of New Jersey, a FLOW-area dancerschool in Oakland, will put on two performances of The Nutcracker at 3 and 7 p.m. this Saturday at Mahwah High School. This marks the second year in a row that the school will be performing the ballet.

“I think performing a full length ballet is an asset to any dance education,” Dance Theater of NJ owner Jaimie Bernstein said.

“Plus, it gives locals the chance to see a quality Nutcracker performance without having to go into the city.”

Each year, the company chooses a charity to donate the profits of the show to.

“This year, I moved from Wyckoff to Mahwah, and I learned about Ava Rasmussen, the little girl that is battling cancer,” Bernstein said. “My heart goes out to her and her family, so this year we are donating the profits to Angels for Ava.”

Tickets to the show are $15 in advance, and $20 at the door. Get more info and see how to order tickets in advance on the school’s website.
