WWII Vet from Mahwah Dies at 86

Bill Kelton died Saturday after a brief illness.

Kelton, William S. (Bill) of Mahwah, passed away Saturday, December 28, 2013 after a short illness. Born September 4, 1927 in Jersey City, NJ he was the son of the late James Kelton and Catherine (Joyce) Kelton. Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Navy who proudly served his country during World War II.

He was a Third Degree member of the Knights of Columbus St. Anthony's Council #943 of Butler, NJ. He worked as an engineer for the railroad from 1954 until his retirement in 1992. Bill was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was fiercely loyal to his family, friends and to the Catholic Church.

Bill enjoyed gardening and loved watching sports, especially his N.Y. Giants and the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. He loved to participate in animated political discussions and was never shy about voicing his opinions. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Bill is survived by his wife, Dorothy Kelton of Mahwah, NJ, his daughter Margaret Kelton and husband Joseph Morris of Clarksburg, NJ, his daughter Joyce Kelton of Mahwah, NJ, his son Richard Kelton and wife Lori of Bomoseen, VT, his son Robert Kelton and wife Meghan of Flemington, NJ, his grandchildren Ryan, Sean, Kathleen, Allison and Jessica, and his siblings Charles Kelton, Edward Kelton, Donald Kelton and Catherine Lauten. He was predeceased by his brother James Kelton and sister Mary Mahon. 

Visitation and services were held Friday.
