John G. Donnelly, age 86 of Mahwah, beloved husband of Grace M. Donnelly (nee Gaus) formerly of Guttenberg, Hasbrouck Heights, Palm Coast, Fl, Midland Park, and Mahwah, NJ died December 15, 2013.
John was a US Navy veteran of WWII serving in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters on the USS Breckenridge and the USS Princeton. He was honorably discharged and awarded the Victory and American Theatre medals.
He worked at Maxwell House in Hoboken for forty three years where he became a General Foreman. John is survived by his adoring wife of sixty-two years and five children: Susan Kelly and her husband Robert, John S. Donnelly and his wife Grace, Gavin C. Donnelly, and his wife Debbie, Ellen Saranovic, and Janice Rudnick and her husband James. John is also survived by eight grandchildren: John & Christopher Donnelly; Steven & Justin Saranovic; Elizabeth & Catherine Rudnick; & Rebecca & Severin Donnelly, and a great granddaughter, Natalie daughter of grandson John Donnelly.
Visitation will be held on Thursday 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 PM at Vander Plaat Funeral Home, www.vpfh.com, 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff, NJ 07481. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, 10:00 AM at Immaculate Conception RC Church, 900 Darlington Ave., Mahwah, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s memory may be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
