What’s up with the box? Well, one major part of MEVO’s Summer of Awesome is our educational summer camps, where MEVO teaches visiting children about two things: local farming and beekeeping. In our first week, we had the Butterfly Program visiting, and we gave them a sample of how beekeeping works.
And how do we do this? Not by showing them picture of bees—cause where’d the fun in that be?—but by actually having an observational hive that the kids could look at and learn from. Here in the photo, you can see a kid doing just that, trying to point out where he thinks the queen bee is hiding.
With a program like that, it’s no wonder the kids came to love our bee workshops and summer camp. Hopefully, we’ll teaching kids how to appreciate our environment for many more summers to come.
