Yesterday, as a Republican, I received campaign literature, a yellow sheet, from the Republicans for Good Government that totally denigrated one of their own party members. The whole purpose of their mailing was to destroy the reputation of their favored candidate's Republican opponent. Nothing at all was said about the virtues of their candidate.
Tearing the opponent apart seems like a last resort strategy. Doesn't the favored candidate have strong enough merits to stand on his own? Are lies and distortions about the opposition their favored candidate's only hope? Resorting to such childish defenses only make voters wonder what the distraction from their favored candidate is all about.
I am inclined to vote for someone who believes enough in himself that he does not rely on underhanded tactics. Bullies are not good candidates. I am voting for the guy who sent a beautiful brochure describing all his worthy qualifications.
