Spring into SPRING with these Five Fun North Jersey Activities!

Despite the fact that there is still snow on the ground, spring is finally here! It’s time to put away the winter gloves and woolen blankets, and take out the baseball gloves and picnic blankets. With the snow finally melting and temperatures on the rise, it is a great time to start planning outdoor activities with your friends and families.

1) Take the kids to a playground!

Playgrounds offer a fun and safe space for children to play and expend energy. It’s even healthy! The Let’s Move initiative recommends that children get 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity a day to maintain a healthy weight. Playing in a jungle gym is a great way for children to receive this exercise while having fun with their friends. Mahwah’s Winter’s Park will have a brand new playground built in late 2014 thanks to the efforts of the Winter’s Park Playground Committee and the township.

2) Visit a Park.

With big open spaces, playing fields, and walking paths, parks offer tons of space and activities for you and your family. Enjoy a nice picnic out in the sun, throw a ball around, or just enjoy a relaxing walk. Winter’s Park offers 17 acres to explore, including a pond and a gazebo, as well as lots of open space for activities.

3) Take a Hike!

The mountainous regions of Bergen County offer plenty of amazing hiking trails that offer astounding scenic views. Many which are also dog friendly, as long as you keep man’s best friend on a leash. Ramapo Reservation is the perfect place to take either a leisurely nature walk or a challenging hike, and both activities will reward you with breath taking views of the Ramapo Mountains.

4) April Showers bring May Flowers

Just because the weather forced you indoors, doesn’t mean you have to watch Netflix all day! When the sun isn’t shining, enrich your knowledge by visiting one of the many Bergen County museums! Many of the museums are run by volunteers and their exhibits are always changing. The Mahwah Museum is currently displaying the Donald Cooper Railroad exhibit, which is great for the little train enthusiast.

5) Visit Darlington County Park!

The Darlington County Park is a 178-acre facility that offers various activities, including in-season swimming, golf, hiking, basketball, handball, tennis, a playground, picnic areas, paths, wildlife observation, catch-and-release fishing and many other activities. There are admissions fees for some activities, but discounts are given to Bergen County card holders.

These are our top five activities that we are looking forward to now that our hibernation is finally over. What are you most looking forward to this Spring?
