Mahwah Football WINS in Over Time!

Mahwah team digs deep to pull out a win over Ridgefield Park in overtime, 34 to 31.

The Mahwah High School Football team wins it's fifth straight game. Their record is now 6-1 after their win over Ridgefield Park on Saturday.

Luke Boonstra, defensive lineman goes in for the first touch down of the game when the ball was forced loose from the Ridgefield Park Quarterback on a hit by outside linebacker, Erik Wong. (This is Luke's second defensive touchdown this year year).

Later in the first quarter, Zach Herrmann threw a 52 yard pass and connected with Erik Wong. Shrugging off defenders Erik ran downfield for another Mahwah TD.

The Ridgefield Park team responded in the second quarter with  a 14 yard run by Julian Johnson for a touch down and later that quarter Alex Alberque ran one yard for another Ridgefield Park TD. The score at the half was Ridgefield Park 14, Mahwah 13.

Mahwah returned from the half to score on 6 yard pass from Herrmann to Robert "Red" Askew. Mahwah went for and completed the 2 point conversion to make the score Mahwah 20, Ridgefield Park 14.

Askew scored again on a 15 yard run in the third quarter. Freguletti made the PAT to make the game Mahwah 28 Ridgefield Park 14. But Ridgefield Park fought back for an 89 yard kick-off return by Fitzgerald and later a TD on a 70 yard pass from A. Alberque to Mark Alberque to bring the game to a tie.

The game ended in regulation at 28 all. In overtime, Ridgefield Park won the toss and they came up with a field goal to make the game 31 to 28.

The Mahwah team did not give up. The Thunderbirds took their turn at the 20 yard line and Zach Herrmann chipped away at yardage. Herrmann then handed the ball to "Red" Askew for a hard fought final four yards for a Mahwah TD. (Red's 3rd TD of the game)

Mahwah's next game is the Homecoming vs. Fort Lee at 7 p.m.
