Baby Released to Foster Family After Ingesting Narcotics, Report Says

The nine-month-old Wyckoff baby who ingested narcotics and was transferred to the hospital last week has been released, and is now in the care of a foster family, nj.com reported Tuesday.

Officials have not released information about whether or not the infant will have long or short-term injuries to recover from as a result of the ingesting the drugs, the report said.

Last week, Wyckoff woman Tara Bradbury, 23, and her Mahwah boyfriend, Mark Tomat, 25, were arrested and charged with one count each of endangering the welfare of a child after Bradbury’s infant allegedly ingested narcotics that the couple had in Bradbury’s Wyckoff home, Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli said last week.

The baby was found to have the drug suboxone, an opioid-based drug similar to methadone, in his system, and had suffered swelling in his brain, Molinelli said.

Investigators found drugs in Bradbury’s home, and police found erased text messages between the couple saying that they knew the child had ingested the drugs, and that they planned to deny knowing that if questioned by authorities, Molinelli said.

According to the nj.com, Bradbury has since made $250,000 bail, and Tomat remains in jail.

Both have been ordered to have no contact with the baby, the report said.
