Mahwah Woman Rescued From Car Dangling From Parking Garage’s Second Story

Police identify driver who was rescued through the back passenger door and suffered no injuries, authorities said

A driver who trapped inside a car that apparently drove off the side of the second story of a parking garage behind the Sheraton Crossroads Hotel Thursday evening was not injured, police confirmed.

The 2012 Honda CRV was dangling from the side of the garage with the driver still inside for several minutes, police said.

Mahwah firefighters and emergency responders successfully removed the female driver from the car, authorities said. She did not suffer any injuries, police said.

Rescue Company 1 stabilized the car with chains, cables and other materials before rescuing the woman through the back passenger door of the car, Assistant Fire Chief Brad Stio said. Fire company 2 assisted with the rescue, he said.

Police identified the driver as Lisa Siciliano, 46, of Mahwah.

According to Police Chief James Batelli, Siciliano lost control of her car after she hit a cornerstone in a bend of the garage. She then drove straight into the guard wires of the garage, which kept the car from falling off completely, he said.

Mahwah firefighters assisted a tow truck in pulling the vehicle back onto the garage platform, Stio said. The car was towed away by 5:15 p.m. Thursday.
