Fire department cut open car to remove trapped driver, officials say

A car was totaled Tuesday evening after crashing head-on into a tree on MacArthur Boulevard, Mahwah Assistant Fire Chief Brad Stio said. The car crashed around 5:40 p.m. Tuesday into a tree right outside the entrance of the , he said.

Mahwah’s Rescue Squad cut the roof and door off the vehicle to gain access to the trapped driver, Stio said. The driver was treated by Mahwah Ambulance responders and transported to an area hospital, Stio said. The extent of her injuries was unknown.

There were no passengers in the car, and no other cars involved in the crash, Stio said. Police are investigating the cause and details of the accident, he said.
