Classic Rock DJ Indicted on Child Sex Charges

David Herman, 78, indicted on one count of attempting to transport a minor to engage in sexual activity.

Retired radio legend David Herman was indicted Tuesday for attempting to transport a 7-year-old girl from Bergen County to St. Croix with the intention of sexually abusing the girl.

Herman, 78, was indicted by a federal grand jury on one count of attempting to transport a minor to engage in sexual activity.

Beginning in November 2012, Herman began speaking online with what he believed to be a single mom with a 7-year-old daughter. In fact, he was talking to an undercover officer from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office in New Jersey, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Newark.

Herman had multiple telephone and online communications over several months with the officer during which he indicated his desire to engage in sexual activity with the officer’s fictitious daughter, officials said. Herman “attempted to arrange illegal sexual encounters with the child in New York and Bergen County,” according to a release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

In early 2013, Herman arranged with the mother and daughter to spend several days at his St. Croix home so that he could engage in sexual activity with the daughter.

In September, Herman purchased airline tickets for them to fly from LaGuardia Airport to St. Croix where federal officials arrested him.

Herman, who the Daily News calls a former “on-air pal” of Bruce Springsteen and George Harrison, could serve up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
