Cops Arrest West Virginia Woman with Gun, Knife, Ammo in Tow

Woman told cops she was driving through Mahwah on her way to visit friends in upstate NY, police said.

A West Virginia woman was arrested Tuesday after cops found her driving through Mahwah with a gun, knife, and several rounds of ammo in her car, Police Chief Jim Batelli said Wednesday afternoon.

Kristin Tibbetts, 24, was pulled over by Lt. Jeffrey Dino for driving her green Oldsmobile too close to a U-Haul truck her husband was driving in front of her, according to Batelli.

After Tibbetts exhibited “nervous mannerisms,” Dino conducted a search and investigation that found a .45-caliber semi-automatic handgun, an empty magazine, 20 rounds of ball ammunition, and two rounds of hollow point ammunition in the car’s glove compartment, Batelli said.

Cops also located another 50 rounds of .45-caliber ammunition and a large knife elsewhere in the car, Batelli said.

“There was no indication on why the handgun was in the vehicle,” Batelli said.

Tibbetts, her husband, and a passenger in her car only told cops they were on their way to upstate New York to visit friends, police said.

Tibbetts was arrested and charged with possession of a handgun and hollow point bullets, along with motor vehicle summonses, cops said. She is scheduled to appear in Mahwah Municipal Court on Nov. 19.
