FD Quickly Knocks Down Sprinkler System Fire

The fire broke out inside a pump in the Net-a-Porter headquarters' sprinkler system at about 4 p.m. Wednesday, officials said

A small fire in a large utility room at the Net-A-Porter headquarters on Darlington Ave. was quickly squashed by the Mahwah Fire Department Wednesday afternoon, Assistant Chief Brad Stio said. The fire, which caused a significant smoke condition, broke out at about 4 p.m. inside a pump of the building’s sprinkler system, he said.

All of the building’s employees were evacuated while Fire companies 1, 2, 3 and 4, and Mahwah Ambulance companies 1 and 4 responded to the scene, Stio said. There were no injuries and no significant damage to the building as a result of the fire, he said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

This is the second fire incident in four months at the company, which had to evacuate its employees in July when a transformer on the side of the building burst into flames. That fire stayed contained to the transformer, and never actually went inside the building, officials said.

Net-A-Porter is an online luxury retailer.
