Mahwah Crime Rate Unchanged in 2011, Report Finds
But, there were more burglaries in the township than in 2010
Crime levels in Mahwah remained virtually unchanged last year, according to the state police’s 2011 Uniform Crime Report released Friday that cited a 3% jump in crimes reported across the state.
In 2011, Mahwah saw 110 total crimes reported in the township, up just one from 109 in 2010. The number of reported violent crimes, three, stayed the same year-over-year.
Of the reported violent crimes, 2011 did see one more case of aggravated assault, up from two in 2010 to three.

And, of the non-violent crimes, the number of burglaries jumped from seven in 2010 to 10 last year. The total number of larcenies dropped, from 87 to 85. Motor vehicle thefts also remained stagnant, 12 occurred each year.
Overall, the report said the crime rate per 1,000 Mahwah residents remained the same year-over-year.

Overall, Bergen County saw a drop in the total number of crimes, from 12,492 in 2010 to 12,324 in 2011. Both violent and nonviolent crimes dropped in 2011 county-wide, the report said.
