Municipal Alliance Plans 'Teen Drug Epidemic' Panel

Mahwah police officers, school officials, and drug experts will be on a panel to discuss teenage drug use in the township.

Past Mahwah Municipal Alliance parent forums have tackled issues like cyberbullying and teenage drinking.

This fall’s forum will be dedicated to discussing what the MMA is calling the “Teenage Drug Epidemic.”

The MMA recently announced the event, which is happening at the Sheraton on Thursday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. It is scheduled to include a presentation from the Drug Enforcement Administration on drug use among teens, specifically use of prescription drugs, Molly, Spice, K2, heroin, and marijuana.

After the presentation, a panel of local drug experts will answer audience questions. The panel is set to include representatives from the DEA, the Mahwah High School Principal, a physician, an attorney, a therapist, and Mahwah police officers.

When announcing the event, MMA President Carolyn Blake called it a "critical meeting" for parents.
