New Ambulance Corps to Hold 'One Town, One Squad' Open House

MEMS formed in July from the members of two ambulance companies that previously responded to emergencies in the township. The group is now looking to introduce itself, and recruit new members.

Mahwah Emergency Medical Services, the newly-formed volunteer group that provides emergency ambulance service to township residents, is hosting an event aimed at introducing itself to the community.

MEMS was formed over the summer, after a majority of members from Mahwah Ambulance Companies 1 and 4 decided a combined effort could more effectively serve the township. Previously, the separate ambulance companies divvied up responsibilities in the township, and were run under different organizational structures.

“We are now one group of volunteers, covering the entire town,” newly-elected MEMS Chief Liz Villano said in the Open House release. “Our four ambulances are stationed at our two buildings, one on Franklin Turnpike and the other on Fardale Avenue. We would like to put out a special appeal for new members, especially those people who either live or work in town that are currently certified as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs).”
