Report: Mahwah Doc Pleads Guilty, Admits Taking Bribes

The founder of Mahwah Medical and former physician to the Mahwah Police Department is one of 21 people involved in a bribery scheme at a lab in Parsippany, report says.

A Mahwah doctor who served as the Mahwah Police Department’s physician for over a decade pleaded guilty Wednesday to accepting bribes in exchange for the use of a biomedical lab in Parsippany, NorthJersey.com reported Wednesday.

According to the report, Dr. Glenn Leslie, who founded Mahwah Medical, admitted in a US District Court Wednesday that he was one of 21 people who accepted more than $100 million in bribes from the Biodiagnostic Laboratory Services LLC.

Leslie accepted about $85,000 from Biodiagnostic in exchange for referrals that allowed the lab to collect money from insurance companies and patients, the report said.

An investigation into the bribery ring resulted in authorities forfeiting $6.75 million, including $375,000 from Leslie, the report said.

Police Chief Jim Batelli told NorthJersey.com he was “shocked” by the plea. Leslie served as the physician who would examine victims at crime and accident scenes in Mahwah, and who would examine police officer injuries, the report said.
