A Suffern, N.Y. couple that jumped off the George Washington Bridge together killed a family member before doing so, nj.com reported.
According to the report, a relative found William Valenti, 70, dead in his home Monday. Valenti had been living with his niece, Nicki Hunt-Circelli, 40, and her boyfriend Gary Crockett, 41, the report said.
Police responding to the scene found a note indicating that the couple committed suicide, the report said. An ongoing search to identify a couple that jumped off the GWB holding hands Monday led cops to connect Hunt-Circelli and Crockett to the murder, the report said.
A medical examiner has ruled Valenti’s death a homicide by asphyxiation, the report said. Police told nj.com they could not elaborate on how he was suffocated.
The killing may have been the result of a dispute between the three after the couple withdrew $1,000 or $1,500 from Valenti’s bank account without his permission, the report said.
The couple was initially removed from the water alive on Monday, nj.com reported. They were both pronounced dead later after being transported to a Manhattan hospital, the report said.
These mark the fourth and fifth successful suicide jumps from the bridge so far this year, reports say.
