Second Ramapough Suit Filed Against 'Out of the Furnace,' Producer Leo DiCaprio

Eight Ramapoughs claim the movie presents them in a false light, report says.

A second group of Ramapough Indians has filed a lawsuit against creators of the film Out of the Furnace, NorthJersey.com reported Wednesday.

According to the report, a group of eight Ramapough people, one of which lives in Bergen County, filed a lawsuit against the film’s director Scott Cooper, writer Brad Inglesby, and six producers, including Leonardo DiCaprio. The suit alleges defamation, says that the film inflicts emotional distress, and that it portrays the Ramapough people in a “false light,” the report said.

The suit also names the New York Post as a defendant, taking issue with wording used in the paper’s December movie review, the report said.

This suit marks the second filed against the film. In December, 17 Ramapough plaintiffs sued the film for $50 million.

Other members of the tribe previously held press conferences denouncing the film. The film’s distributor, Relativity, has previously said the movie is not based on anyone in particular.
