Wednesday marks the 12th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, and residents throughout the township will be reflecting on what Patriot Day means for them.
Township officials will gather with residents for a commemoration ceremony at 7 p.m. near the train station museum across from Winter’s Pond.
The area, which houses Mahwah’s 9/11 tree, was recently adorned with hundreds of American flags remembering the lives lost that day.
Over the years, Patch has spoken to Mahwah residents and businesses about the impact 9/11 has had on them. This year, it seeks to be a forum for reflection.
Residents have taken to social media to post their feelings on 9/11, writing messages like, “Not just another day,” and “Never Forget.” Mahwah resident Paulette Ferrara posted a simple message on the Patch Facebook page, “God Bless America.”
Patch is asking readers to create a live, online 9/11 reflection below by commenting with, thoughts, reflections memories, and messages they want to share. The comment stream below will continue to update with the 9/11 reflections of Mahwah residents.
