The range of housing prices in New Jersey is wide, and a four-bedroom, two-bath abode could cost anywhere from $134,000 in Irvington to roughly ten times that price in Stone Harbor.

That’s according to a new survey by Coldwell Banker Real Estate of housing prices around the country, which ranks Mahwah close to the top in the state, with the eighth most expensive housing market.

Of the 1,997 housing markets the agency surveyed across the country, the township came in at 1,940 most expensive, with the average four-bedroom, two-bath house going for $715,600.

Only one Bergen town – Wyckoff – ranked higher on the statewide list than Mahwah. Wyckoff is #4.

The real estate company conducted an “apples to apples” survey, comparing the prices of four-bedroom, two-bath homes. Only towns where there were more than 10 such listings in the first six months of 2013 were compiled.

Nationally, the most expensive housing market distinction went to Malibu, California.
