2013-14 School Calendar Includes First-Week Holiday

A quick trip to many local shopping centers will confirm what students around the borough are fearing – Back to School shopping has started already.

Though it may seem like school didn't let out so long ago, the 2013-14 school year in Mahwah starts in just four weeks.

While you are preparing for the new school year, be sure to remember the following important dates released by the district earlier this year when the Board of Education approved the school calendar above.

• The first day of school for students is Wednesday, September 4. That is immediately followed by a day off for the Rosh Hashanah holiday on September 5, and school resumes that Friday.
• There are no days off in October, just one Single Session Day for Parent Teacher Conferences on Columbus Day.
• November’s got two four-day weekends built into it – one starting November 7 for the NJEA Convention, and one starting with a Single Session day on November 27 for Thanksgiving.
• Winter recess starts Monday, December 23. School resumes January 2.
• Spring break runs from Monday, April 14 through Monday, April 21.
• The last day of school is June 19.
• The 8th grade promotion exercises are June 18, and the Mahwah High School Class of 2014 will graduate on Thursday, June 19.
• The current calendar allows for four snow days.
