Lecture: New Jersey and the Civil War
Presented by Thomas O’Brien It has been 150 years since the American Civil War was fought. New Jersey had no Civil War battles fought on its soil. However, thousands responded to the call to arms issued by President Lincoln. This presentation explores: who they were, where they fought, what a soldier’s life was like, and the aftermath. Particular attention is paid to those volunteers from the local area, those who survived, and those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Mr. O’Brien has participated in the museum’s lecture series in the past with presentations about The Life of Henry Hudson, History of the Mahwah Ford Plant and The History of the Local Railroads.
