Mahwah Republican Club Running Essay Contest for Students

First prize is $750.

The following was submitted to Patch by the Mahwah Republican Club.

The Mahwah Republican Club invites all high school students residing in Mahwah to enter its essay contest. The first-place winner will receive $750; second-place, $375; and third-place, $200.

Applicants must be residents of Mahwah, grades 9-12.

The topic of the essay is, "Why did the founders choose representative government?"

Essays must be submitted no later than May 1, 2014 to the Mahwah Republican Club, PO Box 481, Mahwah, NJ 07430. Do not put your name on your essay. All essays will be reviewed "blind" by the judges. The Mahwah Republican Club is a group of Township residents who share a mutual love of America and a strong belief in the principles of our Founding Fathers. The club is committed to the preservation of democracy and the liberties we enjoy as citizens of the United States.

Club meetings are held on the 4th Wednesday of every month at 7:30 pm, Mahwah Senior Center, 475 Corporate Drive. All registered Republicans are invited to attend. Annual dues are $30. Meetings are open to the public.
