Mahwah Schools Call Early Dismissal Tuesday

Forecast calls for five to nine inches of snow.

Mahwah schools will operate on a single session schedule Tuesday due to a storm that's expected to drop as much as nine inches of snow on the township, the district announced on its website Monday night.

The Mahwah Police Department issued a Nixle alert Monday warning residents to be cautious Tuesday as the storm will bring with it significant amounts of snow, and bitterly cold temperatures that are likely to remain in the area through the rest of the week.

The National Weather Service has called a Winter Storm Warning in effect through 6 a.m. Wednesday. The NWS forecast is below:

  • Tuesday: Snow, mainly after noon. The snow could be heavy at times. Temperature falling to around 13 by 5pm. Wind chill values as low as -1. North wind 5 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.
  • Tuesday Night: Snow with widespread blowing snow before 3am, then widespread blowing snow and a chance of snow after 3am. The snow could be heavy at times. Low around 6. Wind chill values as low as -8. North wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.
  • Wednesday: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 15. Wind chill values as low as -10. Northwest wind 13 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
  • Wednesday Night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 4. Wind chill values as low as -6. Northwest wind 6 to 11 mph.
