Mahwah Schools Maxed Out on Snow Days

Any more days off will lead to a shorter spring break, superintendent said.

The Mahwah School District had four snow days built into its 2013-14 school calendar, and so far this year it has used all four.

District Superintendent Lauren Schoen gave an update about the snow at a Board of Education meeting last week, saying that the district will move forward with the snow day plan it approved last year should there be any more snow.

In the event of another day off, the district will start shortening spring break, she said. The first day that would be added back into the calendar would be Monday, April 14, Schoen said. Any additional days would be taken in order, starting with Tuesday, but skipping Good Friday.

At the meeting, Schoen asked Board of Education members if they wanted to change the policy approved when the 2013-14 calendar was initially approved last year, and take different, non-Spring Break days. Board members declined.

The Superintendent's announcement comes just in time for a National Weather Service prediction that snow is likely to once again hit the region beginning Wednesday night.
