Mahwah Students Among 'Distinguished' UNICO Scholarship Winners

Italian American organization chooses local students with impressive resumes to reward each year.

The following was submitted to Patch by UNICO.

The Greater Ramsey chapter of UNICO recently awarded eight scholarships to deserving 2014 graduates from four local high schools. 

Recipients of this year’s scholarships are:

  • Mahwah High School: Alec Buonfiglio (University of Tampa), Alissa Puzo (Boston College). 
  • Saint Joseph’s High School: Mark Fossati (Princeton University).  
  • Don Bosco High School: Joseph DeMasi (Iona College). 
  • Ramsey High School: Daniel Kleinbard (College of New Jersey), Victoria Pesco (University of Georgia), John Strollo (Rowan University) and Emily Tie (The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey). 

These outstanding students have distinguished themselves through academic achievement and school/community activities. 

Joe Verdone, Director of the Greater Ramsey UNICO Chapter recognized the achievements of the scholarship recipients saying, “UNICO’s commitment to support education is part of our tradition. These impressive young scholars will be the future leaders in our society. We are proud to support them as they embark on their college experience.”
