Should High School's Proposed Complex Include an Indoor Pool?

At least one board of education member wants to see what it would cost. What are your thoughts?

This August, the Mahwah Board of Education is set to hear more details about a 26,000 square foot multi-use complex proposed at its last meeting.

If the board decides to go with the facility, the high school would sit next to additional fields, practice space, team meeting rooms and offices.

The project would cost about $3.8 million to build as planned, which would be taken from the district’s capital reserve fund.

But, the project is not set in stone, and one board member asked at the last meeting for plans to see what adding an indoor pool to the facility would look like, and cost.

Board member Chuck Saldarini, a member of the facilities subcommittee that put together the proposal, said he was “hesitant,” to add a pool because of the associated liability issues, but that he would find out more about adding one, and present it to the board at its next meeting.
