Dancers Raise $8K For Gift Of Life

Money will be used to help bring a child with heart problems to the US for surgery

The Interact Club’s second annual raised about $8,000 for a charity that brings sick children to the Unites States to receive medical attention.

For the third year in a row, the community service club worked to raise money for Gift of Life International. Last year, the club organized its first dance benefit to help pay for the transport of an international child who will have heart surgery donated by a US surgeon.

The high school auditorium was packed last Saturday to watch dancers from Infinite Motion Performing Arts Academy in Mahwah, in Mahwah, Mariann’s School of Dance in Paramus, Dance Theater of New Jersey in Oakland, Allegro Arts Academy in East Rutherford and Dance Fusion in Cliffside Park.

Interact President Sara Kern said the amount of money raised at the benefit should be enough to pay for one Gift of Life child.

This year, the child who comes to the US will be living with one of the Interact club officers. “We are not sure when the child will come, so that will determine which one of us he lives with,” Kern said. “But we are all excited to be even more involved with the child than we were last year.”
