Former Boston Celtic and high school basketball legend from Fall River, Massachusetts Chris Herren will speak on “Standing up to Substance Abuse” in Bergen County next week.
The speaking engagement for parents and the general public on Wednesday, March 19 at 7 p.m. at Don Bosco Prep, Immaculata Hall Gymnasium, 492 N. Franklin Turnpike in Ramsey. This event is free of charge.
Chris Herren scored over 2,000 career points while at Durfee High School, was named to the 1994 McDonald's All-American team, played Division 1 college basketball and made it all the way to the NBA playing for the Denver Nuggets and Boston Celtics.
He struggled with substance abuse for much of his basketball career.
Alcohol and drug-free since August 1, 2008, he now centers his life upon sobriety and family. He has authored a book entitled Basketball Junkie: A Memoir with Providence Journal columnist Bill Reynolds, and in 2011, ESPN aired Emmy-nominated Unguarded the story of Herren’s basketball career and drug abuse.
Chris Herren will share his story of abuse and recovery with the public in the hopes of making a difference and saving lives.
