Girls Tennis Nabs First Tournament Of The Season

Mahwah has won title both years of the tournament's existence

The Mahwah girls varsity tennis team has won its first tournament of the season, and according to Coach Bob Parker, the team is now ready for a great season to follow it up.

“This is only the second year of the tournament, and we’ve won it both years,” Parker said. “Last year, that win catapulted us to have a terrific season, and I hope it will do the same this year.

Last Friday, the team won the Bergen County Fall Classic Tennis Tournament by beating the team from Indian Hills. Teams from 12 schools around the area compete in the “very well run” tournament, Parker said.

“We have a nice combination of experience and youth on the team that I think and hope will help us do well for the rest of the season,” he added.

The members of the winning team are:

1st Singles - Alyssa Baldi (10th Grade)

2nd Singles - Victoria Japhet (10th Grade)

3rd Singles - Emily Newman (12th Grade)

Taryn Varricchio (12th Grade)

Laurence Chanut (11th Grade)

Tori May (11th Grade)

Ashna Kapoor (11th Grade)

Alexa DiDomizio (11th Grade)
