To the Editor:

When it's single digits out there, it helps to start thinking about Spring!

Registration for the 2014 Recreation Softball Season for Girls grades 1 through 8 is now open through the end of February.  New for this year is that we're working with several surrounding towns to form a league to make for an even better experience.  Don't miss out on the fun - register at TMYSB.ORG.

If your daughter is interested in playing on an All-Star Travel Softball team, tryouts for this year's teams are scheduled for Sunday, February 9 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at PBI located on Route 17N in Upper Saddle River - time slots for each group will be posted on the softball website. If your daughter is interested in trying out, please register online at http://www.mahwahyouthsoftball.org/travel-registration.html by February 1.

The tryouts will be organized by School Grade so schedule will be first the 3rd/4th/5th/6th graders, followed by the 7th/8th/9th graders.  The times for each group will depend on the number of girls registered so PLEASE register early so we can give your daughters the appropriate amount of time on the field.

We strongly recommend that you read the travel information located at http://www.mahwahyouthsoftball.org/travel-information.html so you and your daughter fully understand the requirements and expectations of the travel program. A big reason the travel teams have been extremely successful over the years (last year, two Mahwah teams won championships, and two advanced deep into the playoffs) and a great experience for all of the players is because players and parents understand the commitment required.

This year like in the past, our teams will participate in tournaments and in the Bergen County Softball League.  In order to do this, we expect that players make their travel commitment a priority over other extracurricular activities.

Please also understand that the Mahwah travel softball teams are recreation all-star teams so all players (except those playing High School Softball) must be registered in the Mahwah softball recreation program.

Applications for travel coaches also are now being accepted. If you are interested, please send a request for an application toMahwahSoftball@aol.com.

We look forward to seeing you at the tryouts! Any questions, please contactMahwahSoftball@aol.com.

Best regards,
Mahwah Softball Committee
