MMA Running 'Empowering Women' 5K Training Program for Township Girls

Weekly class is meant to help young women in Mahwah grow physically and emotionally, organizers say.

The Mahwah Municipal Alliance is partnering with Empowering Women Thru Motion to offer young girls in the township the chance to participate in a program that organizers say will provide both physical and emotional growth.

“The intended objective is for these young women to have the capacity to stand up for themselves in whatever life challenges they face,” the MMA said in a release about the Empowering Women class. The 10-week class trains girls to run a 5K while focusing on themes “applicable to their physical and emotional success.”

The class will meet once a week, Saturday mornings at 8 a.m. starting on March 29 at Continental Soldiers Field in Mahwah. It will culminate in the REACH Foundation 5K this June.
