T-Birds Head into Playoffs with Perfect Record

Mahwah football team is set to take on Lakeland in the first round of the state playoffs Friday night.

For the first time in recent memory, the Mahwah Varsity football team is heading into the state playoffs with a perfect record.

“The last time that happened was before I was coaching,” T-Birds Head Coach Jeff Remo said.

“It must’ve been in the 80s.”

During its regular season, Mahwah built up a perfect 9-0 record, and it clinched the Big North League Championship.

Friday night, the team is set to take on Lakeland at home at 7 p.m. in the first-round playoff game.

“We have a great team,” Remo said of why he thinks the season has been so successful so far.

"Everybody is doing their jobs.”

In order for Mahwah to be crowned state champs, they’ll have to win three games, starting with Friday night’s.

“We’re going to take it one game at a time,” Remo said.

“This is the start of a new season for us. It’s do it or die time now.”
