Town Honors Championship Baseball Team

Members of the first state champs in Mahwah baseball history got rings, and a proclamation from the township this week

The 2012 Mahwah High School Boys Varsity Baseball team was the first baseball from the township to ever win the state title. The township honored the team's accomplishment during a ceremony at the halftime of a Mahwah basketball game Wednesday night.

According to Mahwah Athletic Director Roger Pelletier said, the school hosted a ring ceremony, where players received championship rings, a proclamation from the mayor and township council, and plaques from the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association.

The ceremony was held this week so that all students on the championship team, including those who were seniors last year and are now home on break from college, could attend.

The team already has one sign up on Ridge Road touting its 2012 championship. The town presented another sign to the team Wednesday night. This one, Pelletier said, he hopes will be placed along Franklin Turnpike, near the sign congratulating the 2010 girls soccer championship team.
