Bike Tour At Darlington Looking For Help

Annual Bergen Bike Tour needs cyclists and sponsors

The Sixteenth Annual Bergen Bike Tour – a ride through the county’s parkland – is coming to Darlington this September. For the event, which raises money for the Tomorrows Children’s Fund at Hackensack University Medical Center and the Volunteer Center of Bergen County, to be a hit, both bikers and sponsors are needed.

The family event includes a kids’ ride, and 10, 25 and 50 mile bike courses for cyclists, followed by a barbeque, music, prizes and games.

Sponsorships begin at $500, and $1,000 for corporations. The corporate sponsorship, according to a release sent out by the Volunteer Center of Bergen County, includes registration for all employees and a company logo on the t-shirt given to everyone who attends the tour.

The Bike Tour usually draws about 400 fundraising athletes, each of whom raises at least $100. Riders can pre-register in four ways:

  1. Register online
  2. Print out a registration form, and mail
  3. Call 1-877-BER-BIKE
  4. Register on site, at the event on September 25 at Darlington

Each year, the Bike Tour turns over an average of over 80 percent of the event’s proceeds to the Volunteer Center and Tomorrow’s Children. This is a rate that far surpasses many events of this kind, and we are very proud of our philanthropic efficiency,” said Phil Murphy, who is Chairman of the event.

The recipients of the funds raised at the event cater to the needs of the county in different ways. Tomorrows Children’s Fund provides assistance to families of children with cancer. The Volunteer Center of Bergen County, in Hackensack, matches volunteers to the over 600 charitable organizations with which it is affiliated.
