JDRF Names Mahwah Resident 'Man of the Year'

Man will be honored at an upcoming fundraiser event.

The following was submitted to Patch by the JDRF.

The Northern New Jersey and Rockland County Chapter of JDRF will be honoring Doug Albregts, a Mahwah resident and the President of Sharp Imaging and Information Company of America, as Man of the Year at their 12th annual Dream Gala.

The black tie event will be held onSaturday, May 3, at the Rockleigh Country Club. NBC sports anchor, Harry Cicma, will emcee the event that will directly benefit the chapter and honor Albregts for his generous support and commitment to type 1 diabetes (T1D) research.

“I am truly thrilled to be selected as this year’s JDRF Man of the Year,” said Albregts.

“It gives me the opportunity to continue spreading awareness about the seriousness of T1D and help educate people about how crucial JDRF’s fundraising efforts are to the thousands of people affected by the disease.”

Albregts’ support for the organization is propelled by his personal connection to T1D, as his nephew and Godson, Zach, has been living with the disease for six years. Albregts is looking forward to the Gala, which is held each year by the Northern NJ & Rockland County Chapter to raise funds and awareness for T1D. It’s also a way for the chapter to recognize community members who lend their support to JDRF’s mission throughout the year.

“Doug Albregts has been an active supporter of JDRF for many years now,” said Doug Rouse, executive director of the chapter.

“He has done a tremendous job of gathering support from the members of his company as well as his other corporate connections, which have greatly helped us move toward our goal of ultimately finding a cure for T1D.”

The Chapter strives to surpass last year’s fundraising total of $650,000. Family, friends and colleagues will come together for a night of dinner and dancing in support of JDRF’s mission. Silent and Live auctions will be held to raise additional funds for the Chapter.
