Locals Walking for ‘The Longest Day’ of the Year

The national event raises money and awareness for the Alzheimer's Association.

Summer officially kicks off this Friday. For the first time, an organization in Ramsey is taking part in a charity walk that literally capitalizes on the fact that Friday is the longest day of 2013.

The Alzheimer’s Association is hosting “The Longest Day” walk at locations throughout the country on June 21. Locals can now take part in the walk, thanks to Memory Care Living, a collection of residential communities catering to people living with dementia and Alzheimer’s. Memory Care’s location in Ramsey is hosting a walk around town from 2-10 p.m. Friday, and asking residents to join in.

The walk is to raise money and awareness for the Alzheimer’s Association. Memory Care will have a team of employees, residents, and families in the walk, and will donate $100 per hour, for a total of $1,600, to the organization.

According to organizers, the team is taking part in the endurance activity in order to reflect the endurance necessary to be a caregiver to an Alzheimer’s patient.

“This is the first time we are doing this, and we’re hoping that local families, friends, and businesses come by to be a part of it,” Pamela Treadwell, of Memory Care’s Ramsey location, said. “We are going to walk up and down Main Street, and down a few side streets. We’ll all be wearing a t-shirt promoting the cause, so hopefully we get a good response from the community.”
