Scout Seeks Volunteers To Help Clean Up Ramapo

Last time project was attempted, scouts pulled 87 tires, a refrigerator and a bathtub from the river

Ramsey teen Patrick Watters is working on an Eagle Scout Project that he hopes will help the entire region – a clean-up of the Ramapo River. Starting this Sunday, June 3, and continuing for the next two weeks, Watters and a team of volunteers will be taking debris from the river along Route 202 in Mahwah.

For the first two weeks, the group will remove debris from “Section 1” of the river, from Route 17 to the Halifax Bridge, and the third week, it will remove debris from “Section 2,” the Halifax Bridge to Bear Swamp Road. Watters has coordinated his clean-up effort with the township, so that waste collected will be picked up by the township’s .

Six years ago, Watters’s brother completed a similar project. Then, he pulled 87 tires, a refrigerator and a bathtub out of the river, along with piles of other debris.
