Academy Award Winning Singer to Perform in Mahwah

Maureen McGovern will be performing a show of classic and holiday tunes this weekend.

An Academy Award winning singer is coming to Mahwah, and she’s set to bring a collection of classic songs to perform.

Maureen McGovern, who has won both Academy and Grammy awards for her music, will be performing at The Berrie Center at Ramapo College next Sunday, Dec. 8, the college recently announced in a release.

The 7 p.m. show will feature McGovern covering classic songs from the 60s and 70s, and a collection of holiday tunes.

McGovern has made several marks on the music industry throughout her career. She won an Academy Award for her debut song “The Morning After,” which was featured in 1972’s The Poseidon Adventure.

She won another Oscar for ‘Best Original Song’ with the song “We May Never Love Like This Again” from the film The Towering Inferno in 1974, and she introduced the Oscar nominated song “Wherever Lover Takes Me” in the film Gold. Other hit recordings include, “Can You Read My Mind?” from the motion picture, Superman and “Different Worlds” from the ABC TV series Angie.

McGovern was also a featured guest artist on the Grammy Award-winning Songs from the Neighborhood: The Music of Mister Rogers.

Her Broadway credits include originating her Drama Desk nominated role of 'Marmee' in Little WomenThe Musical and in 1981, 'Mabel' in The Pirates of Penzance. She’s also performed at Carnegie Hall.
