This Week: 'Meet the Candidates' for Mahwah Town Council

Event will introduce residents to four candidates vying for an open seat on the township council.

This week, the Mahwah Public Library Board of Trustees will host an event that they say will give township residents information about the local political choices they’ll be making on Election Day.

According to a release from the Library Board, it will host a ‘Meet the Candidates Night’ forum Wednesday at 7 p.m. This year’s forum will happen in the library’s Winter Room.

During the event, the four township council candidates - Planning Board member and previous council candidate Jonathan Marcus, former councilman and Bergen County Freeholder Rob Hermansen, Environmental Commission member Gregg Sgambati, and political newcomer Jonathan Wong – will give personal introductions, outline their platforms, and answer questions posed by moderators.

The four are vying to fill a one-year unexpired term on the Mahwah township council. The seat was vacated earlier this year when Councilman John Spiech retired.

At the Candidates Night, the candidates will not know the questions beforehand. No questions from the audience will be entertained. Candidates will not directly debate one another.
