Many times, sports are about more than the score at the end of a game. Mahwah athletes in 2013 proved that some of the most important sports stories in a community happen off the field. 'Tim McGill Cup' Honors Soldier Killed in Afghanistan

Veteran members of the ice hockey teams of Mahwah and Ramsey played each other in honor of a soldier killed in Afghanistan this year. McGill and his father were instrumental in starting the hockey leagues in bith Mahwah and Ramsey.

PHOTOS: Newtown Team in Mahwah Raises Money, Hope for Sandy Hook

The girls basketball team from Newtown High School was in Mahwah Sunday for a special game against the team from the Saddle River Day School. The game raised money for Threes for Sandy Hook, a fundraising program started by the Newtown Nighthawks Girls Varsity Basketball team in response to the school shooting tragedy in Newtown last December.
