The Top School Stories of the Year in Mahwah

2013 was a big year in school news for the Mahwah school district. The year was most notably marked by a new superintendent, and an athletic complex at the high school that could be built within the next two years. Board Ends 'Exhausting' Search, Officially Hires New Superintendent

Former Ramapo Indian Hills Superintendent Dr. Lauren Schoen was hired in February and officially took over in July. Schoen was offered the maximum pay allowed under the state-imposed superintendent salary cap, officials said.

Board Green Lights Indoor Athletic Complex at Mahwah High School

The Board of Education proposed the construction of a 26,000 square foot indoor "multi-purpose facility" on the high school campus in July, and approved the project in October. A group of parents have been expressing concerns about the project since its approval. 

Interim Principal to Stay at Betsy Ross School

Roger Bayersdorfer remained principal of the Betsy Ross School for a second year while the Board of Education searches for a permanent replacement.

Mahwah Named to AP Honor Roll List

Only 36 NJ districts were recognized by the College Board for increasing the number of AP exams offered, and the scores students are receiving on exams. 2013 marked the second year in a row Mahwah made the list.
