Circus Performers' Camper Hanging Off Route 287 Overpass Cleared, Police Say

In September, an accident left a camper hanging off the side of the overpass, according to New Jersey State Police.

The camper was being hauled by a pickup truck when the accident occurred, police said. Two circus performers reportedly driving the pickup were not hurt in the accident, New Jersey State Police Sgt. Adam Grossman said.

Locals Line Streets to Honor Fallen Soldier

Hundreds of local residents stood silently along East Main Street in Ramsey this September, watching a procession in honor of Army Staff Sgt. Timothy McGill, a Ramsey High School graduate who was killed in Afghanistan last week.

McGill’s father is a retired Mahwah Police Officer. McGill and his father started the hockey programs in Mahwah and Ramsey.

PHOTOS: Mahwah Fire Department Honors Fallen Members

In March, the Mahwah Fire Department honored the lives of fallen members in a Communion ceremony. Firefighters dressed in uniform gathered at the Company Two firehouse on Island Road, walked to the Church across the street, and held a service in honor of all past MFD members who have passed away.

Representatives of the Crossroads Developer maintain that it is difficult to say what exactly its proposed 600,000 square foot shopping development would look like because they have not yet secured any specific tenants. However, at a Planning Board hearing in December, the developer presented a slideshow of architect renderings and photos of existing shopping centers that reflect the aesthetic that he hopes to replicate at Crossroads.

Mahwah Residents Rally in Memory of Trayvon Martin

Mahwah doesn't often see protests, but in July, a group of several dozen protestors armed with signs, bags of Skittles and bottles of iced tea gathered at the corner of Macarthur Boulevard and Ridge Road. The group had one message – peaceful demonstration in light of the Not Guilty verdict in the George Zimmerman case will bring about awareness in the community.
